| Felt Condition Monitoring |
| NDC has developed both portable and stationary systems that can be used to measure consistency directly on the wire, and therefore monitor the condition of the felt.
¡¡
Using gamma backscatter technology (GBS), the sensor is placed so that it is gently touching the wire. Either via manual entry or via feedback from a QCS system, the dry paper weight is fed into the system. From this, the system can calculate the consistency of the material at a designated position.
The 104PC portable drainage analyzer is best suited to analyzing felt condition. Consistency measurements can be taken at various points along the fourdrinier, allowing the user to easily construct a drainage profile along the table.
Most felt manufacturers own and use the 104PC to charaterize felt condition and assist their customers in determining when best to replace the felt to maximize machine performance.
The 104TC, on the other hand, provides a permanent installation of from 1 to 4 GBS probes to continually monitor consistency and drainage for continuous feedback for control. This wet end feedback system augments the dry-end QCS system and improves machine performance and energy usage.

| Paper - Dry End |
| NDC Infrared Engineering offers economical, entry-level QCS systems for the paper industry, for use where sophisticated DCS systems and CD controls are not mandatory. In every other way though, they provide the sophistication of measurement and control needed to get the most out of older or more modest paper machines.
Our measurement offerings include basis weight measurement via Beta or GBS sensors; moisture content via our very accurate Infrared sensors (transmission or reflection) with an option to use Microwave measurement for heavy weight board. We can also provide ash measurement using a preferential absorption sensor, and have two air caliper sensor options for thickness measurement.
Our controls include stock valve control for basis weight as well as moisture regulation through drying controls.
Our more basic QCS system provides the paper industry with basic measurement and control functions, while our Pro.Net system adds PC-based data presentation and management tools to more easily allow the mill process engineer to optimize machine performance.
The result is a low cost system whose value is unsurpassed in the marketplace. For more information contact an NDC sales person in your area. |

| Paper - Press Section & Size Press |
|
Apart from applications for NDC products at the dry end, there are substantial benefits to be gained from measurement throughout the paper machine, for example at the size press, press section and at the wet end. Improvements to press efficiency, as a direct result of press exit measurement, dramatically improves profitability. In addition, measurement and control of size press profile may be used to correct profiles created in the press and drying sections of the machine.
NDC Infrared Engineering has supplied systems and fixed point sensors to papermakers for a variety of applications within the paper machine. A range of sensor housings are available to cope with the varied and often harsh environments. It is now possible to locate an online gauge within the drying section in a special enclosure which allows operation up to 110 degrees C. To find out how our sensors and systems can improve your profitability and competitiveness please contact us. |
